Lily Cookies

In honor of our first-born granddaughter, the dynamic and beautiful Liliana Grace, i'm planning to try this cookie recipe that I first found online in 2008...

 

LILY COOKIES

• 4-1/2 oz. Cream cheese
• 1 C. Butter
• 2 C. Flour, sifted
• Jam or Marmalade

1. Preheat oven to 375*F
2. Cream together cheese, butter, and flour.
3. Form dough into a ball.
4. Roll out thinly on a lightly floured surface.
5. Cut 2" circles.
6. Pinch together the bottom two side of each circle to form a Lily or cornucpoia shape.
7. Fill open end of each Lily with a small amount of jam and place on cookie sheet.
8. Bake at 375* for 15 minutes
9. Cool completely
10. Sprinkle with powdered sugar

Makes 5 dozen.

 

Hint: can sprinkle finely chopped nuts on jam filling before baking.

A really good movie. Subtitled from German. About a very perfectionistic female chef and how life catches up with her, irrevocably changing everything. Sweet, funny, poignant. Well-acted.

The U.S. Version is titled No Reservations and stars Catherine Zeta Jones and Aaron Eckhart.

Darlene Love's acceptance speech/performance during Sunday's Oscar's Best Documentary presentation, and subsequent media coverage, tweaked my interest and led me to Netflix today for viewing. What a win!

 

Strong, powerful women. Overcomers. These, mostly women, back-up singers have lived dramatic, successful artistic lives--just beyond the spotlights. Their talents are staggering.

 

Loved this movie.

The Sea of Tranquility

Very excited to begin a new book. I've been reading mostly non-stop all winter with almost no notable books to record on my First Paragraphs blog. But just a short while ago, I pulled this paperback out of my library bag and my interest level took a dramatic upturn.

 

I love ut when a story just grabs you from the very first paragraph, and The Sea of Tranquility did that and more.

 

Many, many times I've wished to be a slower reader but I can't help but power through almost every book I read. Including, a part-day to polish-off (earlier this week) the non-fiction The Grand Tour, Around the World with the Queen of Mystery - Agatha Christy. I'm not an huge Agatha Christy fan, but I am a fan of PBS and of British fiction, in general. I did enjoy this edition of a portion of Christy's letters and memoir. I plan to read more in other published biographical materials.

 

 

 

In general, my love of reading is one of my most-valued gifts. Life-long learning, vocabulary-enhancing, boredom chasing adventures.

 

Midsomer Murders

Bored silly most of the time by network and cable TV until we finally figured out our AppleTV device and have enriched our winter evenings with movies and past PBS and BBC selections.

One of my late-night consistent choices is Midsomer Murders, which has been in-production since 1997.

While Midsomer Murders is mostly akin to Murder She Wrote (never a fan), and completely lacks any CSI attention to forensic detail, I'm a fan. Pure entertainment, with the added value of catching a view of British actors familiar from Doc Martin and Downton Abbey--in their earlier years. Mrs. Hughes from Downton was a hoot! Very late '90s and quite thin and stylish. Have also spotted Aunt Rosemund and have noted Mr. Carson will show up soon.

 

 

I'm up to Season 3, with eons more to view. I've been keeping track and there are an average of 3 murders per show. Makes one wonder why anyone still lives anywhere near a Midsomer village.
