Big Commitment

After months (and years) of various symptoms and maladies, my research has led me to simplify my food intake and see what results. Encouraged, so far. Had to laugh...

Being gluten-free is just one of my dietary adjustments. The research indicates that you see results within 6 weeks, but some symtoms improve much more quickly. I'm either delusional (quite possibly) or some of my symptoms have already eased.

What I know for sure is that I'm off NSAIDs (Ibuprofen) and feel better than many times when I've been consistently taking anti-inflammatories.

And, I can attest that food prep and readiness is a struggle, and time consuming. But, hey!, I'm retired I can rebalance my life to handle things. Especially if I begin feeling better.

I don't expect a total cure for what ails me, but at this point dietary restrictions are much more attractive than my status quo of late.

The Vanishing Umbrellas

Up, up, and away...

I owned this umbrella for a very short time. It recently went the way of all my umbrellas--disappeared into grandchildren-land. Almost in front of my very eyes.

When we were in Indianapolis LE spotted my most recently acquired umbrella, purchased to replace the pink flowered one that disappeared off the front porch in Taylor Mill during my visit in March--a brief moment of inattention. I immediately stated, "No one is to touch my new umbrella for any reason at all."

LE later quietly asked CA, "Grandpa, are you allowed to touch grandma's umbrella?"

I Needed a Big Smile

Habitually Chic posted this off-guard photo on a street in Paris. Reminded me of RvH and I--a (very) few years down the road.

RvH is the beautifully-put-together grande dame, while I shall remain quirky.

Love the adventures this implies.

Rocket Gibraltar

I've written before about Rocket Gibraltar being my favorite movie. There's a great male bonding scene where Levi says, "Nothing's as good as a midnight pee in the ocean."

I ran across this family photo from Virginia Beach last winter. The guys are just admiring the waves at Croatan Beach, but it suspiciously appears similar...

Back to my favorite movie...

The amazing cast list from this 1988 production includes quite a few actors who've made it to stardom in the intervening years.

Some more sweet images from Rocket Gibraltar...

Travel Plans

Inconclusive travel plans for fall of 2014

I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.

I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.

I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older.

One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!

And, sometimes I think I am in Vincible but life shows me I am not.

People keep telling me I'm in Denial but I'm positive I've never been there before!

I may have been in Continent, but I don't remember what country I was in. It's an age thing. They tell me it is very wet and damp there.

I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is to get there.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
REMEMBER...
"Life is short. Smile while you still have your teeth."
From one unstable person to another... I hope everyone is happy in your head - we're all doing pretty well in mine!
Reflections on Life
I was lying around, pondering the problems of the world, and I realized I don't really give a rat's pituti anymore:
.. If walking is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.
.. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, but is still fat.
.. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years, while
.. A tortoise doesn't run and does mostly nothing, yet it lives for 150 years.
And, you tell me to exercise?? I don't think so.
Just grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to remember the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. Now that I'm older here's what I've discovered:
1. I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.
2. My wild oats are mostly enjoyed with prunes and all-bran.
3. I finally got my head together, and now my body is falling apart.
4. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.
5. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.
6. If all is not lost, then where the heck is it?
7. It was a whole lot easier to get older, than to get wiser.
8. Some days, you're the top dog; some days you're the hydrant.
9. I wish the buck really did stop here; I sure could use a few of them.
10. Kids in the back seat cause accidents.
11. Accidents in the back seat cause kids.
12. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.
13. The world only beats a path to your door when you're in the bathroom.
14. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he'd have put them on my knees.
15. When I'm finally holding all the right cards, everyone wants to play chess.
16. It's not hard to meet expenses . . . they're everywhere.
17. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.
18. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter . . . I go somewhere to get something, and then wonder what I'm "here after".
19. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.
20. HAVE I SENT THIS MESSAGE TO YOU BEFORE..........??????
Heat Wave
While our local heatwave has given us a slight break, the whole country plus Europe can identify with our summer weather thus far.
Canicule:
French word for a heatwave. It is based on the alternate name of Sirius, the main star in the Grand Chien constellation (Great Dog or Canis Major in English), which rises and sets with the sun during the hottest days of summer. This also explains the English expression "the dog days" of summer.
HEAT WAVE
-linda ronstadt-
Whenever I'm with him
Something inside
Starts to burning
And I'm filled with desire
Could it be the devil in me
Or is this the way love's supposed to be
It's like a heat wave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from crying
It's tearing me apart
Whenever he calls my name
Soft, low, sweet and plain
I feel, yeah yeah
Well I feel that burning flame
Has high blood pressure got a hold on me
Or is this the way love's supposed to be
It's like a heat wave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from crying
It's tearing me apart
Sometimes I stare into space
Tears all over my face
I can't explain it
Don't understand it
I hadn't ever felt like this before
Now that funny feeling has me amazed
I Don't know what to do
My head's in a haze
It's like a heat wave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from crying
It's tearing me apart
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah oh oh (heat wave)
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
oh (heat wave)
Don't pass up this chance
This time it's true romance
Heat wave
Heat wave
Heat wave
Oooh heat wave
Following is Not Always Stalking
O.K. I'll admit it. Instagram has gotten its hooks into me. I was first attracted because a few of my favorite bloggers have migrated, almost entirely, from blogging to Instagram. I've missed them.
I do despair over the cropped-square requirements. Not everything fits into a box. In life, and for sure in Instagram.
For example:
So far, here are the filters I'm employing for following and blocking.
Following:
  1. I already follow her/his blog
  2. They like me; their own Instagram feed is both public and not scary*
  3. They follow me; *(see above)
  4. I follow a link; *(see above)
  5. High quality and interesting photos *(see above)
Blocking:
  1. Potential stalkers
  2. Potential pedifiles
  3. On a national registry
  4. Feed has too many "selfies" (pictures she's/he's taken of himself/herself
  5. Foul language-symbols-photos
  6. Pig farmers in Russia. Oh wait! I am following him.
